Mimic Party
Ouaz GamesMimic Party is a singing game from Ouaz Games, and your voice is the only controller. The game plays a sound, you copy it into your microphone, and the closer you get to the original, the more points you score. Each level has three rounds and three other singers on the stage with you. Only one of you walks away with the crown.
The sounds are the ones everybody has tried to imitate at some point: famous memes and video game noises. Some are a single short note. Others climb and drop faster than you’d expect, and those are the ones that separate a decent score from a winning one. It plays a bit like karaoke without the lyrics, and with a lot more shouting. There are 30 levels, and the other singers get better as you go.
Letting the game hear you
When you start, your browser asks for access to the microphone. Say yes, because the game can’t be played without it. If you clicked Block by mistake, Google explains how to turn the microphone back on in Chrome. After that, listen to the sound, wait until the mic lights up, and then sing, hum or shout it back.
On a computer you can move through the menus with the keyboard too: the arrow keys to move, Space or Enter to confirm, and Esc to close a screen.
How a level is scored
The board above the stage shows your score next to the three rivals. You get three rounds, and the best total after the third one wins the level. A weak first round doesn’t sink you, since one strong take at the end can still pull you into first place.
Gold and the 20 singers
Winning a level pays out gold, and the gold goes to the Skins shop. There are 20 characters to unlock, from Ace in his red jacket to Doc, Nala, Rex the explorer and Zack. Whoever you pick is who stands on the stage with you in the next level.
Getting a better score
Find a quiet room first, because background noise drags your score down. Then go for the rhythm before the pitch. Just matching how long the sound lasts already earns a good part of the points, and the notes can come later. If a take goes badly, use the retake option and sing it again.
One thing to know before you start: with no microphone, or in a noisy place like a classroom, you won’t get far. It’s a game for headphones off and a bit of privacy.
